Honorable Delegates, Esteemed Chairs and Co-chairs, Distinguished Guests,
It is with great excitement and anticipation that we welcome you to this conference’s most unique and thought-provoking Model United Nations conference: Planet of the Apes
This simulation is unlike any you’ve participated in before. You will not just be diplomats or representatives. The Planet of the Apes universe, originally conceived in Pierre Boulle’s 1963 novel and later brought to life in numerous cinematic adaptations, is not merely science fiction. It is a mirror, a deeply unsettling reflection of our own world’s prejudices, ambitions, and failures. The story begins with human ambition and ends in our downfall. Genetic engineering, the search for power, environmental negligence, and the refusal to see other sentient beings as equals, these are not only elements of dystopian fiction but realities.
It has been years since the outbreak of the Simian Flu, a genetically engineered virus originally designed to cure Alzheimer’s, which instead decimated the human population and gave rise to enhanced intelligence in apes. The virus has also revived lots of historical figures from the dead as a side effect of reincarnation and regeneration.
You, as delegates in this conference, will represent key stakeholders in this post-collapse scenario:
- Military leaders, both human and ape, wary of each other’s next move.
- Scientists who understand the biological link between the virus and evolution.
- Peace advocates and artists who believe reconciliation is still possible.
- Political remnants of the past, clinging to their lost influence.
The fate of the remnants are completely up to you. Treachery, dishonour and bloodshed will only be as common as loyalty, honour and peace.
